Bird Study Group - Birding Locations
While active birders will be familiar with most, if not all, of
these locations, new and relatively new birders in the Calgary region
may need some help in locating some of the better birding sites.
Some of the locations listed below are better in some seasons than
others; the information and maps are from A
Birdfinding Guide to the Calgary Region, ed. by Joan F. McDonald,
©1993, the Editor & Calgary Field Naturalists' Society.
While the guide is out of print, it may be borrowed from the Calgary
Public Library.
NEW The recently published "Calgary's Natural Parks: Yours to Explore", by Jim Foley, ©2006, gives a comprehensive overview of the history, development and wildlife in Calgary Parks, with detailed access and trail maps and pictures. It is available in most Calgary bookstores. The locations listed in the book have been pinpointed in a Google map with brief descriptions of the bird species which may be found.
Looking for a location
for a particular species? See the Species
Locator page.
Interested where rarely-observed species have been seen?
Bonus : Where to eat while out birding
(suggestions are welcome).
