Bird Study Group - 2005 Competition Rules
Overview -- Rules -- Support docs -- Prizes -- FAQs -- Other Regions

  1. Anyone can compete. You can begin at any time of the year. All participants must sign up. Sign up is free.

  2. Species must be recorded within the Calgary Region in calendar year 2005.

  3. Count only those species which you can confidently identify and distinguish from similar species, as is more fully explained in the ABA Recording Rules and Interpretations. Birds which are "heard-only" should be so indicated on the Results Form.

  4. Countable species are those listed on the Results Form. The Competition Committee will not challenge any competitor's reported observations of listed species. However, for any observed species not listed on the Results Form, a written description (preferably with a sketch) of such a bird and all other pertinent information should be submitted to The Competition Committee will promptly determine and advise all competitors whether such species will be accepted for the purposes of the competition. Not countable are domestic or non-native birds which have obviously escaped.

  5. To be eligible for prizes, competitors must submit completed Results Forms to within 15 days of the end of each calendar quarter.

  6. All species included on the List of Uncommon Birds to Report on AlbertaBird as well as species not listed on the Results Form, should be reported immediately by e-mail to AlbertaBird, or by phoning another competitor who will post it on AlbertaBird for you.

  7. All competitors are encouraged to follow the ABA Principles of Birding Ethics.

Happy Birding During This Friendly Competition!
